Comments:  This piece was probably found by Fernando Sologuren at the beginning of last century. In 1928, Caso and Bernal (1952: 97) took pictures of the piece when it was at Mercedes Sologuren's house. At the beginning of the 1950s, the piece went to Machida Armilia Van Rijn and then, in 1964, it was acquired by Dolores Olmedo Patiño (personal communication Patricia Van Rijn, 1999). Comments:  Caso and Bernal use this piece to designate category "Goddess 11 Death". Part of the glyph for corn is now broken, but in the photograph published by these authors in 1952, it was complete. Glyphs:  There is a mask of glyph M in the headdress and above, a glyph for corn (partially broken). Above the legs, two bars and a numeral 11. In the pectoral's cartouche, glyph M "Death" (11 H).

However, we can see that it was carrying a bag of incense in this hand. The right hand is stretched out, palm up. Glyphs:  The face of an owl is tied to the right arm and glyph M (Cocijo) to the left arm. Dating:  F57

Chronology:  Pitao 350 - 500 AD   Click to view Chronology Comments:  This piece is very big and is a composite of different parts made at the beginning of the 20th Century and pasted to an original piece. The drawing only shows the head of the original piece. Perhaps this piece had a counterpart that is now at the Ethnographic Museum of Berlin (see EMB 26836), or in the Frissell Museum in Mitla (see MFR 1224). Glyphs:  5 dots in the headdress.
